Hi, I'm Jennifer, owner and lead designer at Petals a floral design firm in Boulder, Colorado.  Along with my husband and two children, I  grow my own organic blooms using the greenest and most sustainable processes available.

This blog is where I explore topics from floral design, wedding planning, organic farming and gardening, sustainable living, and our family's quest to find the perfect farm!

I'm so glad you are here!

April Garden Log

What we are doing in the garden this month and what you can do in YOUR garden to GET READY FOR FLOWERS!!!

We are an organic flower farmette located in suburban Boulder. While our farm is small, it is mighty and we pack as many flowers into our little yard (and a few neighbors' yards) as we can. While a gardener's work is never done, here are the tasks we are up to that I felt would most likely overlap with the hobby gardener's 'To-Do List.'

I hope it helps you Get Your Grow On !

April Garden Check List:

  • Order compost and mulch

  • Clear leaves out of garden beds

  • Check on leaf mold, harvest, and refill

  • Pull back remaining mulch

  • Pull weeds and errant grass

  • Cut back perennials

  • Mark spots for future bulbs

  • Amend soil with leaf mold and compost

  • Cover soil with mulch

  • Organize pots

  • Clear and refill raised beds and pots with fresh soil

  • Pot up and pinch large seedlings

  • Root pinched seedlings and pot up

Feeling a little EXTRA this month? Pot up some dahlias, start some seeds indoors, and build a greenhouse. There is no end to the possibilities (and chores) when you garden! Love the idea of flower farming but real life keeping you from getting your hands dirty?

Order a flower subscription and let Petals do the dirty work!
